Interim Pastor

Ray grew up in Wichita, Kansas and was educated at Anderson University, where he received his bachelor and master degrees in ministry, and Indiana Wesleyan University, where he received a master degree in management. His wife Tina is a nationally known children’s ministry expert. She is the author of 18 books on children’s ministry.

Ray is an ordained minister in the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana). He ministered in churches in Kentucky and California, and planted a new congregation in Clarksville, Indiana. Then he spent 18 years Ray as pastor of First Church of God (now South Creek Church) in Kokomo, Indiana. Since leaving the Kokomo church in 2010, he has served churches in Washington, Illinois, Indiana, and Mississippi as interim pastor. He is also the administrator of his wife’s work, Tina Houser Ministries, which trains people in creative children’s ministry.

Two great ministry passions fill Ray’s heart: 1) To help churches that are plateaued get going again and to see declining churches rebound. Ray believes there is hope for these churches, if they are willing to become agents of God’s love, hope and forgiveness in their communities. 2) To see churches accept the challenge of doing effective ministry to the next generation through exciting ministry to children, youth, and young adults.

In addition, Ray co-wrote two “Fun Family Devotions” books with his wife. (available at tinahouser.net) If you want to get to know Ray’s thinking about the church visit his blog at rayhouser.blogspot.com.

Ray and Tina have called Shorewood, Illinois home since June of 2013. When they are there they are excited to attend the Shorewood Church of God which their son, Jarad, pastors, and, possibly more importantly, where their amazing 8 year-old grandtwins, Bowen and Kendall, and 1 year-old granddaughter, Lucy attend.

Interesting Facts: Our family came to ARCOG not knowing I would one day be on staff. Talks about that started just a few weeks after we began attending and the rest, as they say, is history. Besides leading Worship, which is my main passion, I have been privileged to be in involved in a variety of ministries including teaching Sunday School, Youth leadership, choir, VBS, Board of Christian Education, to name a few. My family, down through the years, have also been involved in Sunday School, Choir, Drama, and Youth. Besides music, my other passion is reading and talking about great literature. I also love being outdoors and sitting around and playing music with my friends.

Education:  Graduated with a BA from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Family: Married to Steve and we have been blessed to have raised two daughters and one son.  Our daughters are nurses in the area and our son is a civil engineer in Illinois We have one granddaughter whom we have the privilege of caring for often since we have returned to this area.

Interesting Facts:  Grew up in a small country church in the cornfields of Iowa so can relate well to Adamsville Road Church of God.

After college, we joined Youth with a Mission (YWAM) and we were sent to Bangkok, Thailand to work with the office staff ministering to the Cambodian refugees in the camps for 2 ½ years.  We were able to work in the camps directly with the refugees for the last year of that time.

Christian education was important for our children so we home schooled our three children and are currently home schooling our granddaughter.

Being able to combine faith, service, and job all in one is a blessing as Administrative Assistant here at ARCOG.
