Are we losing our minds? Have you asked that question in the last few weeks over circumstances in the Middle East? How about Greece? Maybe of this country and some of the crazy things happening in the good ole US of A? Maybe you are asking that question of yourself when you have let yourself down or missed the mark?
We can point to a lot of different passages and proclaim this is what is happening in our world today. Maybe you would choose one of these. Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” 2 Timothy 3:2 “People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power.” Maybe the words of Jesus, Matthew 24:37 “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.”
It sure seems like all of this is happening and more. Has a spirit of worry or fear come over you? How are we to act in these days of turmoil, selfishness, and growing immorality?
God Is In Control: First, let’s take a deep breath and remember God is in control. That doesn’t mean the days ahead will be easy or not discouraging but we are children of God. We will be judged not according to the world’s standards but God’s standards. He is not – I repeat not up in heaven right now wringing His hands and saying oh no – I didn’t see that coming – what am I going to do? I serve a really big God. HAVE FAITH!
What An Opportunity: What an opportunity to be set apart. To live differently; to live sacrificially; to live in a way that while everyone else may be losing their minds – we aren’t. What an opportunity to be people of grace and mercy and love. To walk in the wisdom found in Proverbs that we have begun studying. We need to be prayed up. We need to know His Word. We need to choose to act differently.
The Apostle Paul challenges and encourages Timothy even as he shares with him the difficulties that lie ahead. 2 Timothy 4:5 “But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you. As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.”
Hey church we are called to live differently – telling others the Good News and fully carrying out the ministry God has given us. If we do we will see fruit, redemption, lives changed, miracles happening right in the midst of all the chaos. BE OF GOOD CHEER – GOD IS ON HIS THRONE AND HE LOVES YOU!!!
